FAQs
Questions people actually ask.
Straight answers about how monitoring, keyholding and response actually work - not sales copy.
What areas of the UK does Echelon cover?
Echelon monitors sites anywhere in the UK from a single control centre in the Lincolnshire Wolds. For physical response — keyholding, alarm response and manned guarding — we have our own teams based in Lincolnshire, London (via Epsom), Wales (via Rhondda) and North Lincolnshire (via Immingham), and work with a response partner for anywhere else in the country. See where we work for the full picture.
What happens when an alarm activates?
The signal reaches our control centre, an operator assesses it against the escalation plan agreed for that site, and something happens — a call down the contact list, a keyholder, a response vehicle, or a direct line to the fire or police service. Every activation is logged and timestamped. See alarm monitoring for more.
What is keyholding and how does it work?
We hold your site's keys under secure, audited conditions and attend in place of your own staff when an alarm activates, confirming what triggered it and securing the site. You're only called if there's genuinely something you need to know, rather than every time a sensor trips. More on keyholding and alarm response.
Do you monitor CCTV live, or just record it?
Both, depending on what a site needs. For live monitoring, our systems watch for movement and for crossings of lines you define, then bring the relevant camera in front of an operator so they can assess and respond to an actual intruder rather than a false trigger. See CCTV monitoring.
What is process monitoring?
Process monitoring watches conditions like temperature and humidity around the clock, so a failing chiller or a damp store becomes a phone call at 3am rather than a write-off discovered the next morning. It's one of our fastest-growing services. See process monitoring.
Can Echelon provide security for a one-off event?
Yes. We provide licensed event security officers, briefed against your event's specific plan and risk assessment, plus event medical cover scaled to the crowd size and activity, and radio hire for on-site communication. Get in touch with the event details and we'll advise honestly on what cover it actually needs.
How quickly do you respond to an alarm activation?
Response times are agreed per site and depend on location — our own teams in Lincolnshire, London, Wales and North Lincolnshire typically respond faster than areas covered via our response partner. The exact response level for your site is set out in the operational arrangements agreed when you sign up.
Is Echelon accredited or independently audited?
Yes. Echelon holds ISO 27001 for information security management and ISO 9001 for quality management, is certified to Cyber Essentials Plus, and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller. More on the About page.
